All Aboard for Scottish Citylink's New Summer Services
Scottish Citylink has announced details of its new summer timetable, boosting services and offering more choice for passengers across Scotland.
Citylink has introduced a number of improvements which will come into effect on 24th May 2010. The changes are set to give passengers more flexibility, with many routes seeing increased services.
West coast culture vultures will be able to take advantage of the new night service during the Edinburgh Festival. Buses will run at 1.30am and 3am between Edinburgh and Glasgow, allowing festival fans to enjoy shows well into the evening. These services are expected to be popular and it is recommended that people pre-book where possible, to avoid queuing on the day.
Nature lovers will also be catered for, with a near hourly service introduced between Glasgow and Loch Lomond National Park. The service will run between 7am and 6pm throughout the summer and will provide access to one of Scotland’s most popular beauty spots.
Those keen to travel further afield will not be disappointed. Weekend services between Glasgow and Blackpool will operate along with additional services between Edinburgh/Glasgow and Belfast. Onward tickets to Londonderry and Dublin are also available.
Further enhancements will see:
• Minor timetable alterations to service 900 (Edinburgh – Glasgow) will see the Monday – Friday 0605 and 0620 departures from Edinburgh re-timed to 0555 and 0615.
• Service 913 (Edinburgh – Fort William direct) and 978 (Edinburgh – Oban direct) will operate again this summer, with one journey each way seven days a week. These services will also now serve Grangemouth and Killin.
• An additional early journey between Edinburgh/Glasgow and Belfast and a late return service will provide more opportunities between Scotland and Northern Ireland. Special day return ticket prices are also on offer from Glasgow.
• Minor timetable changes to service M8 (Glasgow – Dundee). 1700 Glasgow to Dundee will no longer serve Cumbernauld, instead the 1720 Glasgow to Dunblane will now operate via Cumbernauld. The 0900, 1700 and 1800 M8 departures from Glasgow will now operate at 0910, 1710 and 1810.
• Service M10 (Glasgow – Perth – Inverness) will be replaced by service G10 Glasgow to Aviemore and Inverness direct (not stopping at Perth). This service will operate three journeys each way seven days a week. • New service G9 will operate direct between Glasgow and Aberdeen. There will be three journeys each day, in both directions, seven days a week.
• Summer service 973 will operate again this year connecting Dundee and Perth to Oban.
• Increase in service levels between Glasgow and Oban/Fort William.
A number of special promotional fares have also been introduced for summer. Tickets from Edinburgh/Glasgow to Fort William or Oban can be purchased for as little as £5 and services between Edinburgh and Glasgow start at just £1.
Nicola Campbell, marketing manager at Scottish Citylink, said: “Summer is one of our busiest times, with people up and down the country traveling to popular events such as the Edinburgh Festival. "We have attempted to strike the correct balance between enhancing connectivity and improving journey times and we believe these changes will give even more people the opportunity to make the switch to hassle-free, cheap and reliable public transport."
