Scottish Citylink Win Tender for East Kilbride to Edinburgh Service
Scottish Citylink, Scotland’s premier coach service operator, is delighted to announce that it has successfully retained its contract to operate the 904 service from East Kilbride to Edinburgh.
The future of the service had been in doubt due to a fall in passenger numbers over recent months. However, after discussions with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), the organisation responsible for planning and delivering transport solutions for all modes of transport across the region, it was established that the SPT was prepared to subsidise losses on the route.
Tom Wileman, Managing Director of Citylink said:
"As soon as we had established SPT’s support for this service we were fully committed to tendering for it once again, and of course we are delighted that it has now been confirmed that our tender has been successful. This will ensure that the service stays on the road after October 5."
The news will come as a great relief to commuters who travel on the service. However, Wileman was keen to stress that the more that passengers use the service then the better it is likely to become, pointing out that that the number of people who use the bus in the morning is almost double the number who travel on the return journey.
He also explained that "Travelling by coach is not only great value for money, relaxing and stress free, but also helps to reduce our carbon footprint. By embracing public transport people will help to reduce CO2 emissions which can only be a good thing everyone."
