New Bus Deal Helps Students Save Money

28.10.2002

A leading Scottish University’s Rector is supporting Scottish Citylink’s drive to help students save a bob or two.

Clarissa Dickson-Wright was on hand to officially launch the bus operators’ free student discount card in Edinburgh today (Monday, 28th October 2002).

Welcoming Scottish Citylink’s initiative, which offers free discount cards to all students, Clarrisa said: “Coach travel is still the greatest value for money when it comes to transport. This initiative makes coach travel in Scotland an even better bargain bringing it within every student’s budget.”

The Managing Director of Scottish Citylink, Neil Wood explained the rationale behind the initiative: “A large proportion of our customers are students and young people and it is important that we offer them a good deal on travel. Earlier in the year we carried thousands of music lovers to T in the Park, Scotland’s biggest music festival, providing a service to our student and younger customers.

“This is the company’s biggest ever student promotion,” added Wood. “We anticipate that some 20,000 students will register for a card. A considerable marketing drive is now underway including an online/ email campaign.”

Students will be able to register on the newly revamped website (www.citylink.co.uk) to receive the card, which will entitle them to 20% discount on Adult Singles, Day Returns and Returns.

“The look of the website is in line with Scottish Citylink’s re-branding exercise which encompasses the relivery of our fleet of coaches,” added Wood. “This is phase one of our website development with an online sales and reservation system set to be launched early in 2003,” added Wood.
