Young Parliamentarians Hit The Road!

13.03.2002

Young parliamentarians are now travelling free around Scotland in a bid to make attending parliamentary gatherings even easier.

Youth information charity, Young Scot has launched a special discount card for members of Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP). This includes complimentary travel vouchers courtesy of express coach operator Scottish Citylink enabling members to travel free to their regular meetings to discuss issues and give Scotland’s young people a voice.

Katrina Greig, Chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament, said: “This is a great opportunity for our organisation. All of our members are volunteers and it is costly for them to attend meetings, particularly for those from rural areas. This support from Young Scot and Scottish Citylink is a real help to the SYP and will allow us to involve more young people from across Scotland.”

The card, which was launched at the SYP annual general meeting in Edinburgh – their biggest event of the year - is a special edition Young Scot card, produced to support members of the SYP. Over 200 members attended the event.

Marc Liddle OBE, Chief Executive of Young Scot, said: “Supporting the SYP to involve as many young people as possible from across Scotland is something we are committed to – is it vital that all young people have the opportunity to have their say on the issues that affect them.”

Neil Wood, Managing Director of Scottish Citylink added: “We are delighted to make this offer to the members of SYP. Young people are a core part of our target market and we are happy to assist them to travel to these important parliamentary business meetings.”
