As the Scottish Executive encourages Scots to lead a healthy lifestyle, the leading coach operator has joined forces with Scotmid to provide passengers on its busiest route with a selection of free fruit and healthy snacks.

The project is being piloted on a three month basis and if successful could be made permanent. It will trial on Edinburgh to Glasgow and Glasgow to Edinburgh Monday morning services between 6am and 9am. The service carries over 20,000 customers every week.

Paul Murphy, Marketing Manager of Citylink, said: “The initiative is designed as a fun way to promote the importance of healthy living as well as thanking our customers for their loyalty and support.”

He continued:“We will be giving away 500 pieces of fruit or healthy snacks every Monday morning and we hope that it will help to kick start the week for our passengers travelling between Glasgow and Edinburgh.”

Colin Bird, Chief Executive, Scotmid said: "As a company we are committed to supporting initiatives within our communities which promote a healthy lifestyle.

"This project will ensure that Citylink passengers start their day the right way with something nutritious and filling."

Ross Kerr is project leader of the “Wise Food Initiative” which is encouraging convenience retailers to enhance their “Healthy Living” offerings to consumer and is jointly sponsored by convenience retailers and the Scottish Executive.

He said: “Scotmid is one of the partners in the Healthy Living project and this promotion of giving away healthy foods with Citylink is a great example of how Scotmid are investing to help encourage people to think “healthier” and develop the healthy option habit each day.”
