Citylink offer sees more people travelling by coach
Promotional offers by Scottish Citylink has resulted in a significant modal switch to coach travel from rail and private car.
Research by the leading express coach company highlighted that low fares available over the internet and through its call centre were attracting new customers. Without offers such as £1 Glasgow Edinburgh, 37% of customers would have taken the car and 30% would have travelled by train instead*.
The introduction of Citylink’s new on-line booking system has also met with approval from customers. A survey** of customers buying on-line revealed that 94% thought the site was “easy” or “very easy” to use and that 15% were new customers attracted to Citylink because of on-line booking.
The research also unveiled the key reasons for choosing to travel with Citylink were the frequency of departures as well as the journey times and ticket price. Safety was rated as the most important factor regarding the journey experience itself.
Paul Murphy, Marketing Manager for Scottish Citylink, said: “As part of our growth strategy we have focused upon introducing promotional offers which have proven to be very effective with many customers making the switch to coach travel.
“Our new on-line booking system has also met with customer approval and the number of tickets being purchased on-line is steadily increasing.”
