SCOTTISH CITYLINK WINS BEST BUS SERVICE ACCOLADE AT 2020 SCOTTISH TRANSPORT AWARDS

Scottish Citylink’s long-standing Service 900 route has been awarded the title of Best Bus Service at the 2020 Scottish Transport Awards

The popular service - which operates between Glasgow and Edinburgh - was given the accolade at a virtual awards ceremony celebrating transport excellence across Scotland.

The route, which  Scottish Citylink has operated since 1985, was chosen by judges for continuing to deliver high-quality and reliable services, re-invest in customer improvements and attract more customers.

Scottish Citylink – owned jointly by Stagecoach Group and Comfort DelGro - had a double celebration as its Director Robert Andrew was awarded the Lifetime Contribution to Transport in Scotland Award. Robert’s career in the bus industry spans over 35 years and he has been a key part of Scottish Citylink’s success for many years.

Stagecoach East Scotland was also named Public Transport Operator of the Year at the awards for the second  consecutive year.

Scottish Citylink Director Robert Andrew said: “It’s been a very challenging time for everyone, so it’s great to have the hard work of our team, and our partners, recognised in this way, and to receive an award personally was also a very special moment.

“We have operated the 900 service for 35 years and it is testament to the people who have delivered and continually improved it over the years that it is still running today. The route saw a multi-million pound investment in a fleet of new luxury coaches this year and we are focused on continuing to deliver a high quality, great value service for our customers.”

Scottish Citylink’s 900 Service is one of Scotland’s longest running coach services and is delivered on behalf of Scottish Citylink by contractors Stagecoach West Scotland and Parks of Hamilton.

At the beginning of this year, Scottish Citylink announced a £7million investment to introduce 18 state-of-the-art luxury double deck coaches on the route. The new vehicles boosted capacity by 32%, adding more than 2,500 extra seats each day to the service.

The new Plaxton Panorama coaches - built in the UK by Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) - have 79 seats, with greater comfort levels and more leg room than ever before. On-board amenities include fold-down tables, reading lights, mobile device holders and USB and wireless chargers at every seat.

Scottish Citylink continues to operate services across the country, following Government safety advice around Covid-19 at all times.

Covid-19 secure measures on the Scottish Citylink coach network include an enhanced cleaning regime which includes daily and in-service cleaning of all coaches with a government-recommended sanitiser, ·anti-bacterial stations on board all coaches and social distancing measures in place on all vehicles.
