SCOTTISH CITYLINK LAUNCHES NEW MULTI-MILLION POUND COACH FLEET ON CITYLINKAIR ROUTE BETWEEN EDiNBURGH AIRPORT AND GLASGOW CITY CENTRE

Coach operator Scottish Citylink has launched a “game-changing” multi-million pound fleet of
vehicles on its popular AIR route between Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow City Centre.

Five brand new, state-of-the-art double deck coaches worth £2million are being introduced this month on the route, with “game-changing” interior features that are designed to further improve the customer experience.

The investment will deliver higher capacity on the route than ever before, with an additional 8,540 seats available every week, representing a 36% increase in capacity.

The AIR service - which is delivered on behalf of Scottish Citylink by West Coast Motors - has proved popular with new and returning customers through high levels of reliability and customer service, and strong partnership working between Scottish Citylink, West Coast Motors and Edinburgh Airport.

The Plaxton Panorama coaches - built in the UK by Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) - have 75 seats, with greater comfort levels and more leg room than ever before. On-board amenities include fold-down tables, reading lights, mobile device holders and USB chargers.

On the lower deck, seating is provided around two tables with integrated wireless device charging, and the new vehicles also offer improved luggage capacity.

Scottish Citylink - a joint venture between transport groups Stagecoach and ComfortDelGro – launched AIR in 2013. It connects Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station with Edinburgh Airport and is the only direct service between Scotland’s largest city and the country’s busiest airport.

Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport Gordon Dewar, Scottish Citylink Operations Director Peter Knight and West Coast Motors Coaching Manager Liz Logan, launch the new coaches.

Peter Knight, Operations Director for Scottish Citylink said: “AIR continues to grow in popularity and this investment ensures that we are continuing to deliver further improvements - and greener travel - for the many customers who travel on the route.

“These vehicles deliver extra capacity and game-changing amenities that we believe will lead to an even more enjoyable travel experience for our customers. By providing greater convenience, a more comfortable journey and improved on-board technology, we also look forward to attracting even more people on to our services. This investment by ourselves and our partners shows the future of coach travel is very bright.”

CitylinkAIR operates up to every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and tickets can be bought via www.citylink.co.uk. Alternatively, customers can pay on board, using cash or contactless payments.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: "People’s journeys, whether they are heading off on holiday, away for a business trip or to that important family wedding, begin on the way to the airport and we want to get it off to the best possible start.

“Citylink’s investment in these new coaches delivers a journey that is as easy and comfortable as possible, and one that also provides WiFi and charging capabilities so people can keep up to date with their flight or even work on the way to the airport. We’re looking forward to seeing them arrive at the airport – I think passengers will as well.”

Liz Logan, coaching manager at West Coast Motors commented: "We are excited to be launching the first ever double decker vehicles into this increasingly popular airport express service. These new coaches will offer an additional layer of comfort for customers and hopefully help make coach travel the number one choice for many customers travelling to Scotland's busiest airport."

Scottish Citylink operates a major network of coach services across Scotland, carrying 5 million passengers a year and serving key locations including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, Oban, Inverness and Skye.
