SCOTTISH CITYLINK SCALES UP COACH SERVICES TO HELP CONNECT FAMILIES OVER THE FESTIVE SEASON

Coach operator Scottish Citylink is scaling up services over the festive period to help connect families across the country.

The company’s coach services will operate across Scotland during most of the festive season, following the Scottish Government announcement that Covid-19 travel restrictions are to be temporarily lifted between 23 and 27 December.

Scottish Citylink - a joint venture between Stagecoach Group and Comfort Del Gro - has also pledged to increase capacity on its services to meet demand as far as possible.

Extensive safety arrangements are in place for passengers and staff and customers are being asked to plan ahead and book their seats as early as possible.

The coach operator is putting in place the following arrangements:

- A special timetable operating on Christmas Day on Service 900 between Edinburgh and Glasgow with services running between 9am and 8pm

- Cross-border routes between Glasgow and London, and between Edinburgh and London will continue to operate during the festive period, including on Christmas Day, bookable at megabus.com

- Christmas Eve services mainly operating as normal across Scotland

- A special timetable operating on the “Saltire Cross” network on Boxing Day serving Glasgow, Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Halbeath, Kinross, Aviemore andInverness

- Services on most routes across Scotland operating on Boxing Day, although many on a reduced timetable

- All Scottish routes operating on 23 December and 27 December to help customers travel at the beginning and end of the Scottish Government’s period of reduced Covid-19 restrictions.

Scottish Citylink Director Robert Andrew said: "This Christmas will be unlike any we’ve experienced before, however we are pleased to be able to play an important role in connecting loved ones over the festive period, some of whom may not have seen each other for many months.

“With reduced capacity on train services and rail engineering work impacting some routes, we will be adding extra coaches wherever possible to help people get to their destinations. I would like to thank in advance our many staff who will be working during this period and I would like to reassure customers that we have strict safety protocols in place to allow them to travel with confidence.”

Covid-19 secure measures on the Scottish Citylink coach network include an enhanced cleaning regime which includes daily and in-service cleaning of all coaches with a government-recommended sanitiser, ·anti-bacterial stations on board all coaches and social distancing measures in place on all vehicles.

Tickets for all Scottish Citylink services can be booked at citylink.co.uk, and for cross border services to Lancaster, Preston, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield and London at megabus.com.
